This dish is simple to make which required to cook diced potatoes with sauteed onions and some spices in a medium bottomed pan. 


  • 2-3 medium sized, diced potato
  • One big sized onion, sliced
  • 500gms chopped methi or fenugreek leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
  • Salt according to taste
  • 2-3 slit green chillies
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander powder
  • 2 tablespoons of butter or mustard oil or any kind of oil you want
  • 1 tablespoon of Cumin seeds
  • 1 medium sized tomato

How to make

  1. Heat up the pan on a medium flame and heat up the oil or butter, whatever you want to use

  2. After the oil or butter is heated up, add cumin, chillies, onions and potato to the pan. Saute a little and then cover the pan and let the potatoes cooked up, keep checking on a regular interval. 

  3. After the potatoes are semi-cooked, add the fenugreek leaves and the spices include turmeric, coriander powder and saute the mixture, cover the lid and let it cooked for a while. 

  4. After everything is cooked, add the tomatoes and let it get mushy, cover the mixture for a while. 

  5. The Aloo methi is ready to be served with any flat bread of choice.


You can also use boiled potatoes

You can add a little garam masala for adding a little flavour

You can skip the chillies if you don't want the dish to be spicy

Skip the tomatoes if you do not like it
