  • Grated beetroot
  • Organic sugar
  • Green cardamom
  • Milk
  • Ghee
  • Cashews few, broken

How to make

  1. Wash beetroots under running water. Peel the skin and grate them. A food processor must ease the job of the grating.

  2. Bring milk to a boil. Stir and lower the flame for the milk to boil further till it thickens a little.

  3. Heat ghee in a pan very well and then add nuts. Fry until the cashews turn golden. Set these aside.

  4. In the same pan add beetroot and fry until it turns aromatic for about two-three minutes.

  5. Pour the thickened milk and cook till the milk is absorbed completely. By then the beetroot also gets cooked soft.

  6. Add sugar and cardamom powder. Stir well. Ensure that beetroot is cooked before adding sugar. Sugar melts and moisture is released.

  7. Cook till the moisture evaporates. If preferring a dry halwa then continue to cook further.

  8. Transfer beetroot halwa to serving bowls and garnish with nuts. 


Beetroot halwa is a creative dish one may make it more creative and interesting if they like. While making the recipe keep in mind about the amount of water and ghee. Pouring too much of water in the halwa might make the recipe runny. Also, do not add too much of ghee as it will make the dish little sobby.
