- One-fourth cup of unsalted butter
- 2 cups of chopped onion
- 1 cup of diced carrot
- 1 cup of diced celery
- 1 teaspoon of kosher salt (also add more according to taste)

- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1 pound of rinsed, sorted and dried split peas
- 1 ham hock which will be meaty
- 1 large in size bay leaf or 2 small in size

- 6 cups of chicken stock
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of diced ham

How to make
Take a large pan and melt the butter in it.
